“Talk It Up” – Sammy Rae & The Friends

A track on Sammy Rae & The Friends first EP, “Talk It Up” mixes an indie vibe with a funky pop sound. A creative combination of musical influences, the group uses free flowing vocals in tandem with horns, strings and drums. This song is a great starting point for new fans who want to give this style of musical innovation a try.

“i” – Kendrick Lamar

Off the album, “To Pimp A Butterfly,” which Rolling Stone has listed as the 19th greatest album of all time, “i” is the album’s lead single, with two Grammy awards under its belt. “i” is a powerful piece loaded with hip-hop, R&B and soul influences, along with messages of self-love and empowerment. One of his most well-regarded works, Kendrick Lamar shines with his lyricism and instrumentals throughout this song.

“Let You Break My Heart Again” – Laufey & Philharmonia Orchestra

No one does the modern vintage sound better than Laufey, combining old-fashioned jazz melodies with romantic lyricism. In “Let You Break My Heart Again,” Laufey collaborates with the Philharmonia Orchestra to create a haunting piece. Employing a serene sound, this song is one of her most heartbreaking in the most beautiful way.

“Running Away” – Thee Sacred Souls

Although many cities like Memphis, Detroit and Philadelphia are known for soul music, the genre can be found anywhere. Thee Sacred Souls create their soul sound all the way in San Diego, California and have been slowly growing. Their single, “Running Away,” incorporates some of the best elements of soul music, such as horns and virtuosic vocals.

“Something’s Got to Give” – Labrinth

Although better known for his scores for the television show “Euphoria,” Labrinth has an entire discography that is worth the listen. At the height of his “Euphoria” fame, Labrinth released his own album “Imagination & the Misfit Kid.” A song off this album, “Something’s Got To Give” is an upbeat pop hit perfect for fans who want to give his music a try.
