Toby Tales: First-Gen

Toby+Tales%3A+First-Gen

First-generation college students (also known as “first-gen students”) are students whose parents did not complete a 4-year college degree. In honor of First-Generation Student Week, we recognize those around us who are first-gen students.

It is tough for students who did not grow up with financial or emotional support in a society where it is nearly impossible to be financially stable without a college degree.

To all the first-gen students who decide to continue schooling, times may get rough, but this will be a huge pay off for your future. If no one told you yet today, you’re doing a great job.

If you’re a first-gen student who is looking for resources to help you navigate your college experience, try checking out www.firstinthefamily.org,
FAFSA, HawkHub, Career Closet, and SJU CAPS. Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri Alpha) is a national honor society for first-generation college students. This week,
Tri Alpha is celebrating National First-Generation Week with a series of activities for first-gen students. For more information about the Tri Alpha
chapter at Saint Joe’s and this week’s events, scan the QR code.
