The Hawk’s “Summer Jamz” playlist

The weather is getting warmer, the sky is a little clearer and finals (and graduation for some) are quickly approaching. There’s one thing on everyone’s mind: summer. To remind you of the upcoming pool parties and tropical vacations (and to distract from the stress of exams), here’s a playlist of some summertime songs.

“Slide” – Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean & Migos

“Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1” is, in my opinion, the epitome of a summer album. With its light and funky production and plethora of features, every song feels like a summer party. “Slide” is probably my favorite track on the album. Frank Ocean’s smooth vocals and Migos’ high-level energy create the perfect fusion of sunbathing and a wild party vibe. I can’t wait for Vol. 2 this summer!

“Feels Like Summer” – Childish Gambino

“Feels Like Summer” is the ideal song for a summer walk. Whenever I hear it, I think of the iconic animated music video, depicting Gambino walking through a neighborhood full of celebrity guests. The smooth, jazzy guitar and the background vocals create the mood of a hot, sweaty summer day.

“Sunshine” – Latto ft. Lil Wayne & Childish Gambino

The strings and brass in the background, combined with Latto’s sweet vocals, make this song feel like a pool party. If you want to dance, Latto brings enough energy for you to jam out. If you want to just lay by the pool and tan, the song can be quite relaxing. Either way, this song will mentally place you by a pool.

“20 Min”- Lil Uzi Vert

This is a great windows-down driving song. The main synth hook has a cool flow, similar to the air’s rhythm as it glides through your open windows. Uzi’s quick melodic rapping brings a wonderful energy to the song that makes you want to speed down the interstate.

“HOT WIND BLOWS” – Tyler, The Creator ft. Lil Wayne

The whole album, “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST” is designed to feel like a vacation, as Tyler takes you around the world while partaking in a secret relationship. This song in particular is a fun summer jam, as the sample he used gives off a tropical vibe, like an island getaway. Both Tyler and Lil Wayne’s flows are so precise, as if they’re rapping while lounging on the beach.
