Forecasting the remainder of the men’s basketball season

nd themselves above .500 by the end of the season. I did assume they would have had a decisive victory over College of the Holy Cross, but that game was cancelled due to covid-19 protocols. I figured I would take a look at the remainder of their season on both an individual and team level.

Taylor Funk Total Three Pointers

Over/Under: 90

Currently: 55

Pick: Under

Taylor Funk has had a very impressive fifth season on Hawk Hill. On Jan. 19, he scored 22 points to get the Hawks back on track in a home win against George Washington University. I do not believe his percentages will deteriorate at all. But, it’s been easy to notice that teams are really starting to run him off the 3-point line.

Funk might have to become more of a distributor as the season tredges on. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did a lot more shot fakes, driving and finding someone else on the perimeter going forward.

Erik Reynolds II Season Points Per Game:

Over/Under: 10.0

Currently: 9.7

Pick: Over

I would be shocked if Reynolds does not finish this season averaging at least 10 points per contest. The first-year player has shown impressive development from game to game. His ability to get downhill has posed a problem for opponents. In the four games leading up to the contest against George Mason University, Reynolds shot only 1-17 from beyond the arc. But Reynolds is a better 3-point shooter than those games demonstrated. Against the Patriots, Reynolds found his stroke, turning in an 18 point performance on 4-7 shooting from three.

Dahmir Bishop Minutes Per Game:

Over/Under: 20

Currently: 18.5

Pick: Over

Bishop’s defense has made him so valuable to this year’s team. There are a lot of clever guards in the A-10 and having a good on-ball defender is just so important to any team’s success. The junior currently leads the team in blocks. I believe you  will see a lot of him down the stretch.

Ejike Obinna Total Points

Over/Under: 400

Currently: 225

Pick: Over

This might be the hardest one to project on this entire list. Obinna has brought a ton to Hawk Hill this season. Recently, the graduate student has been up and down with his scoring. Against La Salle University and Davidson College, he scored a combined 14 points. However, he scored 18 against the University of Rhode Island alone. It’s hard to project Obinna’s scoring output, but I will take the over because I think his offensive role will continue to expand. He really has shown the ability to finish inside, and I think any of the Hawks’ future success will have a lot to do with him.

Regular Season Wins

Over/Under: 14.5 Wins

Currently: 8

Pick: Over

It might be blind optimism to expect that the Hawks can find seven wins in their next 11 games. They have some tough opponents remaining, and the schedule does not give into any “easy” opponent. They will need to take care of the ball and be much more efficient on the offensive end. My initial prediction saw them over 14.5 wins, so I will stick it out.
