It is impossible for every day to be the best day ever. Sometimes life knocks you down a few pegs and leaves you feeling grim. While your bad day may put you down in the dumps, there is nothing a little music can’t fix. Here are six songs from people having a worse day than you are… hopefully.

“The Exit” – Conan Gray

Conan Gray is known for singing about all of his heartaches, and “The Exit” is one of his worst moments in the romance scene. Finding out his former lover has moved on while he is left to pick up the pieces, this pop ballad encapsulates the intense emotions of longing and heartbreak. This song is the perfect choice to commiserate with and scream your feelings out, hopefully allowing you to move on from your bad day.

“Smooth Criminal ” – Michael Jackson

One of Michael Jackson’s most popular songs, “Smooth Criminal” narrates the incidents that add up to what many would call a terrible day. This edgy R&B hit tells the tale of Annie and her experience of someone breaking into her apartment and striking her down, leaving blood stains on the carpet. So, while your day might not be going great, at least it is not as bad as Annie’s.

“I Knew” – Lizzy McAlpine

One of the best ways to ruin your day is to be blindsided by something you thought was going well. “I Knew” is a serene indie piece that highlights the beautiful moments in a relationship that has now deteriorated without the person knowing. While this day may be filled with moments you do not anticipate, you can at least expect this hit to be a good listen.

“Lonesome Loser” – Little River Band

Even if your day is not going swimmingly, at least there is not a band immortalizing your struggles in song. “Lonesome Loser” exposes the life of a man who gambles his love life away and warns listeners not to do the same. A staple rock song for Little River Band, this hit can make anyone having a lousy day feel better knowing it can be forgotten.

“All I Could Do Was Cry” – Etta James

Although Etta James is better known for her happier days from her song “At Last,” “All I Could Do Was Cry” focuses on the lower points. Losing the love of your life when they marry someone else definitely does not make for a good day, and James’ old-fashioned blues melody beautifully conveys this sentiment. While no one wants to watch that scene, songs like this one can definitely help you process your feelings about it.

“Last Name” – Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood managed to write a country hit that commemorates one of the most iconic bad days imaginable. “Last Name” tries to remember a crazy night out that ended with marrying a random stranger in Las Vegas. This country-rock chart-topper is the perfect way to try and turn your bad day around, especially since you (probably) can remember your last name.
