Here to Help: Advice to help you navigate life

For many young people, this is the prime of their life. But as they navigate this pandemic, many young people are unable to socialize as they usually do. The Hawk staff asked students about ways they are coping with life during a global pandemic and what advice they have to help others maintain a social life while also keeping in mind the health and safety of the community.

Staying connected with your friends and family is really important. But I also think picking up certain hobbies that you can do on your own is really important, too, like painting or reading, [which] has been something that’s really helped me when I’m alone in my room and I can’t go and hang out with someone.

Keep going to clubs if you’re already in them. If you’re not and you’re not into any, make your own. If you don’t like that, you can [go to] Philly. There’s always things you can find to do. Follow your own passions and take care of yourself.

For young students here, maybe don’t try to go do anything crazy during this [time] and not get anybody else sick in the dorm. Not right now, but when it’s warmer, maybe going outside to do stuff. If you want to play basketball, maybe find a court outside instead of going to O’Pake or something like that.

Try and get together with a group of friends and walk around campus, and give yourself a tour, and [do] activities on the lawns. Even if it’s like football or soccer or something, just getting together with a group of friends and playing something.
