Landmark Americana is the place to be on Tuesday nights for trivia buffs on Hawk Hill campus. Beginning as early as 6 p.m., students file in the doors, battling to get the best seats for Trivia Tuesdays.

“Trivia Night is always something to look forward to each week,” said Lanie Stem ’25, who is a regular. “I love going to get food and hang out with my friends.”

The restaurant also offers half-price appetizers and $3 beers in addition to a night of friendly competition.

Callie Crouch ’23 said she likes the convenience. Landmark is located across from Hagan Arena on 54th Street, near Lannon and Rashford halls.

“I’m a RA in Lannon, and it’s super nice to just have to walk across the parking lot,” Crouch said.

Trivia Night consists of three rounds of nine questions each, with points ranging from 10 to 50. There are prizes given out at the end of each round, usually Landmark gift cards, but the events are also often sponsored by beverage companies that give out T-shirts, hats and other branded apparel.

Stem’s team, nicknamed “Roommates and Branden” — “because it was my roommates and I, and our friend Branden,” Stem explained — placed in the event on April 4.

“It was super fun to win even though we didn’t come in first,” Stem said. “Our strategy was to go with our gut feeling and really think about each question.”

There also was some kind of strategy to their eating.

“My favorite part was when Branden ate one piece of everything we ordered all at once,” Stem said.

Branden Doherty ’25, yes, that Branden, enjoys winning and his team often does, he said. But that’s not the only perk.

“My favorite part besides winning is definitely the crab dip for sure,” Doherty said.

Crouch wanted it to be known that not all winners earn their spot fair and square.

“There are so many people who cheat on this,” Crouch said. “We’re the only honest team. I just want to get the record straight on the table.”

Each event also has an emcee. On March 21, that was DJ C-Rob, who has been a DJ for 10 years, while also working as a teacher. C-Rob kept the crowd entertained with music and also took recommendations from the crowd.

When asked about the larger meaning of Trivia Tuesdays, C-Rob grew contemplative.

“Trivia Night is really about having everyone come together regarding questions and answers that we all relate to,” said C-Rob, who declined to give his real name (maybe that will be a future trivia question).
