Aquilino had eight saves in the victory over Wagner.

The Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse team certainly had an interesting past week. After a dominating performance against Lafayette to open their spring schedule, the Hawks fell to cross-town rival Drexel by a score of 8-2.

Drexel midfielder Katie Lawson opened the scoring after a 14-minute scoreless battle in the first half; it was the first of four goals on the day. Midfielder Mariana Uribe added another goal at the 13:13 mark to take a 2-0 lead. The score would remain the same for the rest of the quarter and for the rest of the half. 18 seconds into the second half, Drexel scored again on attack Amanda Gregg’s goal.

It wasn’t all bad for the Hawks, however, as midfielder Jen Peters, ’10, scored twice in the game. Unfortunately for St. Joe’s, those were the only two goals for the Hawks.  Peters’ first goal came at the 15:53 mark in the third period with the assist by midfielder Gwen Nihill, ’13, and the second was scored with 17 minutes left in the game. Neither team scored a goal for the remainder of the game. Goalie Alisha Aquilino, ’10, netted five saves on the day, but it just was not enough as the Hawks fell by a final score of 8-2.

On Sunday, the Hawks went out and looked to bounce back from their loss on Wednesday against Wagner. Due to the snow from Thursday and Friday, the game was pushed back from its original start time of Saturday. The venue was also changed because of the inclement weather; the game had been scheduled to take place at Finnesey Field but instead took place at Drexel’s Vidas Field.

Midfielder Julie Mineweaser, ’12, scored within the first five minutes to put the Hawks in the lead 1-0. There was a quick turnaround for Wagner as they scored two goals in a one-minute span: one by midfielder Teri Noll and the other netted by attack Lauren Petrik.

But that would be the last time that Wagner held the lead. Within a five-minute span, the Hawks scored four goals to take the lead for good. Two of the goals were back-to-back by midfielder Grace Dinn, ’12. Midfielder Carolyn Clark, ’12, scored what turned out to be the last goal for Wagner on the night. As the second period went on both Mineweaser and attack Jenna Martino, ’10, added their second goals of the night to put the Hawks up 7-3 at the end of the half.

In the second half, the Hawks added on three more goals to make the final score 10-3. These goals were scored by midfielders Carly Kindbom, ‘12, Peters, and Alana Glanell, ‘12. Aquilino had eight saves on the night to bring up her save percentage to .533 so far this season.

Up next for the Hawks will be a match against Delaware this afternoon on Finnesey Field at 4 p.m.
