The Saint Joseph's men's and women's track teams continued their outdoor track seasons this past weekend with impressive performances in the Lou Onesty Invitational at Charlottesville, Va.

Taking advantage of the warm weather, the distance team powered the men's squad in the unscored meet, and Kyle Murray, '09, powered the distance team. He captured first place in the 5,000m run by racing to a time of 15:00.98. He beat out all other competitors by over seven seconds.

Will Rowland, '08, was nearly as impressive in his 1,500m race. Finishing just 1.37 seconds out of first, the senior helped headline the men's strong results by snatching second place in 3:59.27.

While the meet did not have team scoring, Drew Brandt, '10, claimed that, because of the team's lack of jumpers and people in field events, it has nothing to do with the team's focus when heading into a meet.

"We never go into a meet looking to place as a team overall," said Brandt, who finished 13th in the 400m dash (50.11). "We go into each race looking to place as many people as we can as high as they can. The team scoring really doesn't matter until the conference meet."

The Hawks also added two ninth-place finishes to their impressive distance-team results. Steve Young, '09, added to the team's presence in the 1500m (3:59.59), and Jim Jennings, '10, also achieved fourth by running a 9:54.15 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Young also ran the 800m race, finishing ninth overall in 1:55.39.

Meanwhile, the 4x400m relay team found success, finishing sixth in 3:23.50.

Steve Philbrook, '10, rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Hawks, completing the 400m hurdles in 56.32, good for ninth. He also capped off a day in which, according to Brandt, many did better than expected.

"There were a lot of people who stepped up this meet," Brandt said. "It's getting later in the season, who people are getting better, and there was some real good competition in this meet."

Like the men, the women also had numerous strong showings at Charlottesville, headlined by performances from Jordan Teuber, '08, and two of their ECAC-qualifying relay teams.

For the third consecutive week, Teuber broke her school record in the 200m dash. This time, though, she managed to win the event with a record-breaking time of 24.64.
