The Saint Joseph's softball team won two out of three games this week, shutting out Lafayette on April 2 before splitting a doubleheader with St. Louis on April 5.

It took a team effort to keep Lafayette off the scoreboard, with four pitchers combining for a three-hit shutout.

Lauren Pembleton, '11, got the win in relief of starter Dani Gonzales, '09. Pembleton pitched two scoreless innings to pick up her first career win.

The offense was provided by Erika Rosenwinkel, '09, whose home run gave the Hawks the winning margin. Gonzales chipped in two hits, and the pitching allowed a sparse offensive effort to stand up.

The first game against St. Louis was essentially the Dani Gonzales show. On the mound, she threw a complete game two-hitter, striking out 11 en route to a 6-1 victory.

The lone blemish was a Rachel Heet homer. Gonzales made up for it at the plate, however, as she went yard with a three-run blast that gave the Hawks all the runs they needed.

Kelsey Moir, '08, added a hit, a run and an RBI.

Dana Bieniek, '11, and Brooke Darreff, '10, each added two hits, while Bieniek crossed the plate twice.

The brief two-game winning streak was snapped later in the day, as the Billikens avenged their earlier loss with a 6-4 win. Rachel O'Connell had two RBI, and Kristin Nicoletti added three hits to pace the Billikens. Four errors by the Hawks led to three unearned runs for the Billikens.

The Hawks managed 10 hits off St. Louis starter Lorena Floccari, but could only push across four runs. Bieniek, Rosenwinkel, and Darreff each had two hits.

The Hawks benefited from four errors by the Bilikens with all four of their runs unearned. Gonzales got the loss after giving up two unearned runs in four innings of relief.

The Hawks (7-13, 3-3 A-10) return to Atlantic 10 play when they travel to Massachusetts for two games against UMass on April 11 and 12.
