Six of the Hawks' 10 games have been decided by a single goal, as they are 3-3 in such contests, including 2-0 in overtime games.
On March 26, Martino scored her second goal of the game with under a minute left to play in the first overtime session to give the Hawks the 9-8 win over Drexel (7-2). Courtney McManama, '08, Christina Colangelo, '08, and Jessica Westlake, '09, each added two goals for the Hawks in the victory.
Abby Renninger, '08, contributed a goal and an assist. The Hawks received another stellar performance by Suzy Herlihy, '09, in goal, as the netminder posted 10 saves in the second half and 16 for the contest.
Saint Joseph's was only 16-27 on clear attempts and scored on only one of five free-position shots, allowing the Dragons to lead for a large portion of the game. Drexel had the largest lead of the game at 8-5 with under 15 minutes to play. Colangelo, Westlake, and McManama each tallied their second goals of the game, and the Hawk defense did not allow another goal down the stretch to send the game into overtime.
The Hawks also hosted St. Bonaventure (1-7, 0-2 Atlantic 10) on Finnesey Field on March 30. This time, St. Joe's won, 10-9, thanks to a Martino goal in the second overtime.
Although Martino scored two goals in the contest, she had a great deal of support, as several other Hawks stepped up. Colangelo scored four goals and Lindsey-Kate McCool, '08, had six assists, including setting up three of Colangelo's goals. Renninger added two goals and an assist. McManama and Helene Tursi, '09, also tallied for the Hawks.
The Hawks got out to an early lead and held a 4-1 advantage heading into halftime. But the Bonnies slowly and surely sliced into the Hawks' lead in the second half. St. Bonaventure never scored more than two consecutive goals in the second half as the Hawks responded after every quick Bonnie run. St. Bonaventure finally knotted the game up with under a minute to play in regulation to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Hawks had their opportunities, registering seven shots, but could not put a goal on the board. In the second frame, the Hawks finally broke through, with Martino scoring off of a Renninger pass to pick up the win for the Hawks.
