Hot or Not?

In the spirit of all things Irish, I've chosen to dedicate this week's column entirely to St. Patty's Day. It doesn't matter if you're actually Irish or just pretending to be, think of this as your What To Do/What Not To Do list for this glorious holiday.
HOT:
Celebrate With Friends: This holiday encourages large groups to get rowdy and have a good time. Unless you're a hermit, good times generally involve good people, so make sure that you've got your crew well-prepared for the festivities at hand. This holiday is not for amateurs, although different places in Philly are well-suited for different types. For those of you who can't bear the thought of waiting until Monday or if you have classes and can't take any more days off, the Erin Express solves all of your troubles. Running from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. this Saturday, this free bus whisks you and your gaggle to and from 15 different University City bars (all Irish, of course) such as Blarney Stone and Cavanaugh's. This event can get a little out of control, so keep your friends close because you might lose them if you don't. If you and your friends are ready to wake up and party (literally) on the 17th, you might want to think about heading over to the Bala Inn. A small dive close to many St. Joe's students' hearts, Scotty is nice enough to open the doors for us at 7 a.m. (did somebody say kegs and eggs?). Although I wouldn't recommend going there before your 8:30 class, there's nothing stopping you from going afterwards. Other bars with days of festivities include Brownies, Finnegan's Wake, and Bourbon Blue.
Get Green: While some people go overboard with the green body paint, glitter, beads and hats, you're going to stick out like a sore thumb if you're merely wearing a small pin or sticker on your face. I know you can do better than that, so if you're not an exhibitionist, make sure you at least don a festive shirt or hat (Old Navy has cheap pieces with sayings such as "Let's Get Ready to Stumble" and "Drink 'Til He's Cute") so that you don't look completely out of place. If you're feeling a bit more daring, make a trip to the party store and get yourself some green wigs, head bobbers, and hats. Trust me, nobody is going to be critiquing your outfit, and if they do, chances are you'll be having too much fun to care.
