Get your quirky and innovative costume together. Save some energy and some funds. Warn your Thursday morning teachers. There's a rock 'n roll Halloween coming this year, and it's not one that I recommend you miss.

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, popular Saint Joseph's bands The Quelle Source and Long Walk Home will dominate the stage at The Grape Street Pub in Manayunk for nearly five hours of sweet and raucous mayhem. Grape Street (unfortunately, underclassmen, it's a 21+ venue) is one of the most prominent venues in Philadelphia for up-and-coming local music acts, and typically features four or five bands each night. This Halloween, however, only two will share the spotlight in what promises to be a holiday to remember.

If the names aren't familiar from Battle of the Bands, Midnight Madness, Java Jams, or Up 'til Dawn, then perhaps they've caught your attention at JD McGuillicuddy's, The North Star Bar, or any number of other local hotspots throughout Philadelphia.

No matter where you may have seen them, The Quelle Source and Long Walk Home surely get your attention, combining old-fashioned rock 'n roll influences with unique style.

With passionate and dedicated fan bases, the two bands have begun making a strong name for themselves in and around St. Joe's. From 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Halloween night, they'll look to kick that progress into a higher gear, hosting a spectacle of music, costumes, ridiculous props, and drink specials. The show will feature two original sets from The Quelle Source and LWH, as well as cover sets of Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones, respectively. A $1 beer special from 10 p.m.-1 a.m., a $50 prize for the best costume of the night will complement the performance. A super jam including both bands will close up the night. Pardon me for the author bias, but I'm pretty stoked.

The Quelle Source has taken the lead in recent years as our campus' most popular band, twice winning Acoustic Battle of the Bands (2005-2006, and 2006-2007) as well as the most recent regular Battle of the Bands competition. Comprised of singer and guitarist Kevin Ryan, singer and guitarist Dan Wisniewski, bassist Chris Wafer, drummer John Cooper, and keyboardist Addison Lilholt, the band has been rocking the St. Joe's scene since its inception in March 2005, most recently performing at the Senior Barbecue on Gest Lawn.
