Hawks put forth a solid performance on links in Florida

The Saint Joseph's University golf team finished 14th out of 18th in the St. John's Invitational in Orlando, Florida this past weekend.
In the rain shortened tournament, Zach Smith, '11, played well, finishing 12th, shooting a 74 in the first round and a 72 in the second round.
"Zach Smith was one under par after 14 holes on Sunday," coach Bob Lynch explained. "But then the lightning came, and then the rains came, and the day was cancelled. The scores didn't count on Sunday."
After the first two days of the tournament, the Hawks were 14th but were making a strong move to move up two or three spots, perhaps even into the top 10 on Sunday, before the rain and lightning cancelled the scores for the final day.
The 54-hole tournament was cut to 36. A solid performance was turned out by senior captain Colin Corrigan, '08.. Corrigan shot a 76 on Friday and Saturday.
Looking forward, the Hawks will play in the Big 5 invitational next weekend in Philadelphia. The Big 5 schools and Drexel, along with such teams as Princeton, Boston College, Georgetown, and Richmond will compete in the tournament.
"We have a shot at that tournament," said Lynch. "They know what they have to do: just grind it out."
The Hawks have a good nucleus of both veteran and younger players that will no doubt improve in their last three tournaments of the fall campaign.
Look for Corrigan, Steve Hudacek, '09, and Smith to shoot lower scores as they get more practice and experience under their belts.
