It was one of the various events that took place last week to commemorate the initiation of With Faith and Strength to Dare: The Campaign for Saint Joseph's University.
Faculty and staff attended the convocation where Fr. Lannon explained the plans for the Maguire Campus, the expansion and renovation to the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse, and the Saint Joseph's Fund.
Fr. Lannon began the assembly by announcing the updates to the new Saint Joseph's Web site and the new parking structure located on 54th Street, which is scheduled for a November 2007 opening. He further explained that renovations in the Science Center and the Campion Student Center will continue, and stressed the necessity of generating more campus housing for students, especially juniors and seniors, a campaign that is currently in its initial stages.
Additionally, there are plans for renovations and additions to the Francis A. Drexel Library, the residence halls, and the Fieldhouse. The expansion of the Fieldhouse will include the construction of a two-story, 20,000 square-foot wing, and will be renamed after Michael J. Hagan,'85, who contributed $10 million to the University.
The forthcoming addition of the Episcopal Academy Campus, which is to be named after James J. Maguire,'58, who contributed $10 million to the University, was widely discussed as part of Plan 2010: The Path to Preeminence. Layouts of Maguire Campus, which is to be acquired by 2008, were presented to the audience, showing the future acedemic buildings and athletic facilities and fields that will further enhance the Saint Joseph's experience. The Maguire Campus will offer students and faculty more classrooms, offices, laboratories, and parking spaces.
Also addressed was the Saint Joseph's Fund, which, according to Fr. Lannon, is "a fund made available to colleagues throughout the University in terms of providing new programs, whether academic or non-academic, that will enhance the quality of experience of our students at the university and generate a new source of revenue."
