Changes have been made to Campion Student Dining Center, providing students with more options for lunch and dinner.
A wide array of international foods have been added, including a Jump Asian Station downstairs in the food court and the American International Station upstairs in residential dining. More options for vegetarians have been added as well, including the new veggie wrap at the Hawk Wrap Station and made-to-order vegetarian dishes upstairs.
Customer service has also started improving with the addition of employee programs, such as the Thank You Award, in which staff are encouraged to say thank you whenever possible. Another program is THRIVE, Thoughtful Heartfelt Results Innovative Valued and trusted and Engaged, in which staff interact with students on more than a "here's your food" level. Actively participating in these programs may enter employees in monthly drawings for up to $2,500.
"We've been working very hard on customer service," Tom Rizzo, Food Service Director, said while explaining THRIVE.
Other additions to the cafeteria include an express line for Hawk Wraps, pasta bakes at Penne Pizza, taco salad bowls at Ancho Grille, and a vast amount of frozen delicacies in the new freezers added to the Convenience Store for those who wish to "cook" in their dorm.
Upstairs in residential dining, last year's Hershey's ice cream has been updated to Jack and Jill's with a larger menu of flavors. Chicken cacciatore, beef stew, and various types of seafood can now be ordered at American International.
Andrew Michaud,'09, said the food has "gotten a lot better because they had complaints and surveys, but it's not that nutritional."
Dining Services continues to work with Student Activities to add extra options to dinner twice a week. Options range from nutritional foods, such as a table of fresh fruits and vegetables, to more festive nights, such as Philly night, which features Philly pretzels and cheese steaks.
Though all these changes have been made to please students, not everyone is impressed with the new options.
When discussing the new Jump Asian Station, Dan Schiabor, '09, said, "I think that it's pretty good, but the egg roll I had wasn't that good."
Jump Asian also serves fresh made-to-order sushi that hasn't established a perfect reputation, but is a step up from last year's pre-packaged sushi.
However, on the subject of the new Insomnia Cookies, a late-night cookie delivery to your door, Colleen Kerins, '10, said, "I can't wait to try them."
