Letter: Pennbrook apartments are not a choice dwelling

To the editor:
I would like to warn your students who are considering living "off campus" next semester not to live at the Pennbrook Apartments at 2130 N. 63rd Street, Phila., PA 19131. My daughter and her friends lived there last year. The experience was horrible.
None of them have received their security deposits back; they moved out in June. It is now Sept. 14. My daughter and I went there on August 16 as innumerable phone calls to the manager went unanswered. He said the apartment was in excellent condition and the entire security deposit would be sent within a few days. We haven't received anything. At least a dozen phone calls have been unanswered. Ensuing trips to the office have found no one available, even though they were within routine office hours.
My daughter's apartment had roaches, leaky walls and toilets, and elevators that didn't work for most of the year (they lived on the fourth floor). There was no parking.
This is no way for children to live. And it is certainly no way to conduct a business.
