Another fall season has begun on City Avenue as the Hawks begin making some early season adjustments.
While many students sleep through the early morning hours, athletes of fall sports are out practicing on Finnesey Field, under the watchful eyes of their coaches. Preparation for the current season is nothing new for each head coach, as all have returned to Hawk Hill with another season of experience under their belts. However, some teams welcome new assistant coaches to help them through the 2007 season.
Chuck Gesing, '93, returns to Hawk Hill to accompany his former soccer coach, Tom Turner, after a 14-year hiatus. Coach Gesing was by no means stagnant during his time away from the Hawks, as he held numerous coaching positions in the region.
He coached at La Salle College High School, Upper Dublin High School, and for a local club team. Before his playing days at Saint Joseph's, Gesing attended La Salle College High School, where he received All-Catholic honors for the Explorers.
Kaiti McCaffery, '07, returns to help her former soccer teammates in their quest for a spot in the A-10 Championships after missing out in 2006, the only season in which the Hawks fell short in McCaffery's career. Fresh off graduation in May, she started every game in four years and brings a wealth of experience back to her soccer club.
Last season, McCaffery posted four assists, which placed her second on the career list and tenth in career points for the Hawks. The last of her five goals at Saint Joseph's came against Temple during her junior season. As a freshman, McCaffery broke onto the scene in dramatic fashion, contributing a team-record three assists against Soccer 7 rival, Drexel, in her first collegiate game. She also excelled academically, earning as spot on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll last spring.
Teddy Myers, '07, also returns to Hawk Hill at the end of a successful athletic career. He looks to help the cross country team improve on their sixth place finish at last year's A-10 Championships.
