When you finally find a person that is worth more than a dinner in Campion, it can be a challenge to find a dining establishment that won't clear out your checking account. Philly is full of great restaurants, but many of them are intended for people that make more than $6.15 an hour at an on-campus job.
Bella Trattoria, located at 4258 Main St. in Manayunk, is an exception. It is not by any means cheap. If you are looking for a dollar menu or an all-you-can-eat buffet, this may not be the place for you. However, if you are seeking a sensibly priced restaurant with a great atmosphere, you've found your spot.
A family-owned, Southern Italian style restaurant, Bella Trattoria is snuggled between popular spots such as Le Bus and the Manayunk Diner. The atmosphere is homey and inviting, but also chic enough so that you could get spiffed up to impress your date.
Unlike many fine-dining establishments that can be stuffy or presumptuous, Bella Trattoria is group-friendly and can get pretty lively when it fills up. This is a refreshing change from restaurants where you are forced to awkwardly whisper to the person you're with, and are at constant risk of receiving nasty looks from the people around you for talking too loud.
It is an ideal location for a friend's birthday or any other type of celebration. Various types of delicious thin-crust pizzas are served, which is convenient for groups that do not want to order individually.
Bella Trattoria can satisfy a broad spectrum of people, from the pickiest eaters to those with the most extravagant of tastes. The restaurant serves the classic Caesar salad, but also various other salads such as the "Mediterranea," which contains a delicious array of greens, radishes, artichoke hearts, onions, eggplant, asparagus and tomatoes, and the "Arugula," a more sugary-sweet type salad containing candied walnuts, goat cheese, and dried berries.
The salads are all between $8 and $14, which may seem a little pricey for lettuce, but they are fairly large and can be shared or ordered as dinner.
