No matter what the calendar says, it seems as if spring has decided to rear its lovely head at dear old Saint Joseph's. To all of the first-year students out there, I would like to give you fair warning that springtime on this campus is, at least in my opinion, the best time of the year.
Midterms can put a damper on all of our lives, but remember to soak up the sunshine and the pick-up games of Frisbee, treat yourself to an extra piece of cake from the cafeteria, and add an extra half-hour to your naps.
Spring also means an extra bit of energy in everyone's steps, and a rush to finish some projects before the end of the year. Your Student Senate is keeping the momentum going from the start of this semester and is working hard on several initiatives.
You may notice some more newspapers (still free), a brand new student art contest and celebration, and some more senators hanging around the cafeteria, eager to hear from all of you.
Another process that is certainly buzzing is the slow but steady crawl to Maguire Campus - only a few more years, and this substantial expanse of land will be added to our current campus. The Senate is working with a committee of students to start serious discussions about how some of this campus will be used.
Many of the campus facilities will be converted for use by academic departments and for office space, but there is the possibility of several areas being open to students.
Episcopal Academy currently has gym and recreation facilities which will be renovated and mostly maintained in order to provide extra recreational space for students who want to bulk up a bit or who are involved with club sports.
This will free up the Fieldhouse to be a more exclusively-varsity sport facility, easing the congestion and scheduling tension that currently exists there. Fields and green space galore will also be added to our University upon the acquisition of Maguire, thankfully opening up desperately-needed space for recreational activities.
