Last Saturday, the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team fell to the #74 ranked Princeton Tigers 6-1 at the Jadwin Gym.
Standout Jarrett Chirico, '08, continued his winning ways by coming up victorious in his first flight singles match in three hard-fought sets.
Chirico, along with Phil Bayliss, '09, managed to come away with a victory in their doubles match, as well defeating their Tiger opponent 8-4 in the first doubles contest.
The Hawks battled the Tigers all day, with four out of the six singles matches going to the full three sets.
Bayliss' second flight match was a nail biter, but ultimately he came up just short, losing 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3). The matches played by Pat Adams, '09, and Lucho Perez-Abreu, '10, lasted the full three sets. Unfortunately, the Hawks could only muster Chirico's three set victory. Jarrett's brother, Chris, normally in the second flight spot, did not play this weekend due to injury.
The Hawks will use their short spring break to refresh and gear up for a trip to the West Coast. This loss will surely motivate the men's tennis team to enhance their performance in California.
They will be participating in the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in San Diego, California. The tournament will run from March 2-4.
The highlight for the Hawk is the three-day event will be taking on #35 ranked Rice University.
