Hopefully a good number of you were around last Thursday during free period to see your Student Senate blanketing the cafeteria, armed with home-baked cookies, free lollipops, and a desire to hear what is bothering all of you and to let you know that we are here to help. Thanks to those of you who took the time to fill out a survey, take a few cookies, or stop by my humble booth to list for me your concerns.
Because of last Thursday's success, we are now better armed as your student government to represent your wants and needs to the administration.
Many of you came to me with issues regarding security and dining at our adored home-away-from-home. Well, rest assured, members of the Student Senate meet regularly with the directors of both of those areas to make the case for your desired improvements.
Any little positive change you may have noticed in the cafeteria is probably the result of Senate's efforts.
Your Senate has, for instance, gotten baby carrots, bagel sandwiches, cheese sauce for the French fries, more regular salad bar refills (for increased freshness, of course), better dressing labels, mayonnaise for the Salivations stand, and an assurance from the employees that they would clean their grills more often, just to name a very few of the things.
All of those items, however small they may be, came from students like yourselves - in short, let us know what you want, and we will fight to get it.
Security also is a constant and serious concern of ours, as we know it is a constant and serious concern of yours. I want to attest to all of you that I know the people in charge of security at this school are doing their best and are working relentlessly to make Saint Joseph's and the surrounding communities as safe as possible.
I understand that many of you feel that their efforts are not enough. Please, let me or one of your senators know if you have witnessed incidents of lackluster security around this campus.
