You would think Valentine's Day would be the easiest article to write about for a social relationship column. Right? Wrong! When thinking about what I was going to discuss this week, the typical topics buzzed in my head.

I could suggest romantic ideas for the day dedicated to all of those love birds out there, or I could comfort anyone who was alone today and give them the "all you need is friends" pep talk.

There is always the option of condemning the commercialized holiday, jesting at the pink-hearted hype, and blaming it for making people think they only need to show their love one day out of the whole year.

As the list of topics expanded, I started to realize that no one wants to read about that. There are some people who worship this holiday and others who dress in all black in order to protest its existence. Whatever the case may be for you, I just want to point out one thing-it's just another Wednesday.

Whether you love everything about this holiday and count down the days until candy hearts and papier-mâché flowers are in season, or you think it is absolutely ridiculous, remember it's just another day at St. Joe's.

For all of you who love it, enjoy basking in all your glory. Celebrate what the day means to you and don't let anyone ruin your day of "be mine" fantasies.

In the case that this holiday just isn't for you because of past heartbreaks or the lack of that Mr./Mrs. Wonderful, don't build it up so that it flops or let 24 hours of some extra mushiness in the world get you down. It is just another day, another Wednesday, with work to do, television to watch, and nonsense to be had.

Or maybe you are an unconventional Valentine who loves the idea of the holiday, but is not too fond of the sugary bliss. Do something that makes you happy.

Personally, I would rather stay in, order food, and, oh, I don't know paint my room-but to each their own.

As for all those pessimists circulating the campus-relax. So the day is a little too cheery and maybe all those girls in Uggs and mini skirts are screeching a little bit louder than usual; get over it.

Let them enjoy their day because soon enough it will be all over and everyone will return to the hustle and bustle of the college "meal plan dining, C-Store gifting, party hopping" romance.

Whatever the day means to you-enjoy it. Whether it be a day of cupids and teddy bears or the night to watch "Lost" and finish all that Western Civ. reading, take pleasure in the evening.

Be as passive or passionate as you want about the day (go ahead, I give you permission). College is too short to waste a night, but love is too rare to pass up a day to celebrate it.
