The Saint Joseph's Men's Soccer team struggled this season, posting just a 2-12-4 record, but one of the bright spots for the Hawks this season was the play of Michael McInaw.

The sophomore midfielder led the team in 13 points and six goals.

On Jan. 23, 2007, Michael was selected for the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team for the second year in a row. The Philadelphia Soccer Seven is composed of the usual Big 5 schools, plus Philadelphia University and Drexel University.

It is designed to honor the best in collegiate soccer from our area. It is a great accomplishment for a player in his first two years of college to make the team, and McInaw is honored to have been chosen his first two years.

In describing the award, he calls it "a pretty cool honor."

Joining him on the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star team are: forwards Mike Klein (Penn) and Matt Tompkins (Philly U), midfielders Jeremy Ortiz (LaSalle), Fabio Assumpcao (Drexel), Jim Davis (LaSalle), Ryan Heins (Temple), Joe Taylor (Villanova), defensemen Matt Maher (Temple) and Keith Vereb (Penn), and goalkeeper Daniel Cepero (Penn).

While McInaw enjoys his individual achievements, he describes the season as "pretty tough because many of the games we lost were close."

Some people might have difficulty finding incentive to keep putting forth thier best effort, but being the competitor that he is, he says that, "the only way to improve is to keep playing as hard as you can and try to work even harder."

McInaw's favorite moment of the season was the team's 1-0 victory over Duquesne on Oct. 22, 2006 because they were a tough opponent, and the team was able to band together and pull out a hard-wonvictory.

He offers praise to his teammates saying that, "Our team showed a lot of character, continuing to improve and play hard the entire season although things were not going as well as we hoped."

McInaw believes that the biggest strength he brings to the Hawks is his work ethic, and he cites his quickness as the aspect of his game he wishes to improve upon for next season.

He says that, "Being slightly quicker can open up opportunities that would not be there otherwise, which can end up being a huge difference in the course of a game."

Looking ahead to the future, McInaw believes that the 2007 edition of the Men's Soccer team is going to be much improved.

He believes that the team is definitely improving and he says that they have several freshmen coming in next year who can make a significant impact.

He believes that "we will have a very good opportunity to improve our record dramatically." Whether this is true remains to be seen, but having a player as talented and as motivated as Michael McInaw is a pretty good start for the Hawks.
