Hello fellow Hawks!
This is your president speaking. You may ask, as a concerned and deeply passionate student at this school, what it is exactly that a student body president does. Well, I would be more than happy to shed some light on your question!
I go to meetings, sit on committees, give some speeches, but primarily, the student body president is the chief representative of the student body.
In other words, I technically am the big cheese when it comes to making sure you guys know what the bigwigs at this school are planning and making sure they know what you guys think of everything.
The Student Senate is the organization that officially represents the student voice - I am sort of in charge of guiding that group, and I am trying very hard to guide you, the students, to make good use of them. When the Senate acts, Father Lannon and the rest of the administration pay attention, as they recognize anything that comes from Senate as the official message coming from the students. If you think that this is ridiculous, don't just roll your eyes - do something about it! Get involved in what we do as your student government, and make us work for you.
I have one year as student body president to help steer the Senate in serving you and to make as much positive impact on this institution as I possibly can.
In order to accomplish that much and more in the following twelve months, I have outlined a statement of vision comprised of eight initiatives which I would like to now share with all of you.
The official document will soon be available on our Senate website (www.sju.edu/uss), but until then, you'll have the following breakdown to hold you over:
Initiative One: Strive for an elevated inclusion of the University Student Senate in the University governance process.
Initiative Two: Position the University Student Senate to achieve goals and pursue initiatives that extend beyond the length of a single term or administration.
