Hello, fellow Hawks!
Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Michael McDonald, and I am your new Student Body President. I am a junior philosophy major who not only is involved in Student Senate (as I have been now for over three years), but also can be seen around Habitat for Humanity meetings, Wolfington Hall, SJU 'til 2 nights, in Bluett Theatre, and in a wide variety of other clubs and organizations. Certainly, I am busy, but I would have it no other way. Rest assured, you can almost always find me in the Senate Office, Campion 227B, or hanging around some other student building on campus.
With that in mind, I hope, if nothing else, to be an approachable president. Feel free to come up to me or hunt me down if you have any complaints, comments, or suggestions about how to better the student life and experience at St. Joe's. I am zealous about this University, its ideals, and all that it offers; thus, I am equally passionate about its improvement and path towards preeminence.
The Student Senate is recognized by the administration and faculty as the official student voice - don't let us speak for you uninformed! Senate meetings will be posted on Pipeline; these meetings are open and available for you to come to and let your opinion be known. Besides that, there is almost always someone in our office, and my complete and undivided attention is only an e-mail away: michael.mcdonald1@sju.edu. Take advantage of me, and the whole Senate; we are here to serve all of you.
I look forward to keeping in touch with you through this weekly column. The Senate is looking at new and better ways to utilize both this newspaper space and other mediums to keep the students informed of all of the tasks we are busy taking on. Keep an eye out on our bulletin board in between the two cafeterias and on our website, www.sju.edu/uss. Both will be updated soon and will be updated often. They are there to keep all of you in the know.
Seriously, Senate can help you. We are your voice. Please, take advantage of USS!
