If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, the Yule Ball is the concert for you.
This Saturday, Dec. 2 at The Starlight Ballroom in Philadelphia, Harry and the Potters - the Beatles of Harry Potter-themed bands - will perform their signature style of Harry Potter themed songs. Also on tap is a wide selection of Rowling Rock, including Draco & the Malfoys, The Whomping Willows, The Hungarian Horntails, Uncle Monsterface and A Lightning Bolt Scar.
Doors open at five p.m., and admission is $10. Dress robes or costumes are encouraged.
Harry and the Potters is comprised of brothers Joe and Paul DeGeorge of Norwood, Mass. (who perform as Harry Year 4 and Harry Year 7, respectively.) When all of the bands slated to play a 2002 concert in Joe's backyard shed cancelled, he and his brother wrote seven songs about Harry Potter in an hour. They performed for a crowd of six, and thus, wizard rock was born.
Harry and the Potters have become the face of Harry Potter themed bands, and there are now over 50 spin off bands. H&tP mostly play libraries, but also major concert venues and living rooms across the United States and Great Britain.
Their foils, Draco & The Malfoys are the self-proclaimed "evil wizard" rocking brothers behind such tracks as "My Dad is Rich (and Your Dad is Dead)" and "Your Family is Poor." The Malfoys also play with The Whomping Willows, a band that sings from the perspective of the conflicted, misunderstood tree that guards the entrance to the Shrieking Shack.
The Hungarian Horntails are the youngest of the rockers, made up of Darius, age 7, and his little brother Holden, age 4. They recently released their first album, "Burn Voldemort's Butt." Both of their parents play in other Potter rock groups.
Rounding out the bill is A Lightning Bolt Scar, a local act out of Malvern and Uncle Monsterface, the only non-Harry Potter act, a foul mouthed singing puppet.
