With her final season with the Hawks just around the corner, expectations and anticipation for senior point guard, Whitney Ffrench, are rising fast.

As a returning starter for the Hawks, Ffrench will also be serving her teammates as a co-captain with Ayahna Cornish.

As Ffrench's talents have developed over her four years on Hawk Hill, she is known for her talent in ball-handling and her athletic and aggressive offensive play.

Ffrench attributes her aggressive play to her need, as point guard, "to make sure everyone is in their right position."

By putting her teammates in successful situations on the court, Ffrench is able to not only better herself as a player but to better the team as a whole.

This attitude of, bettering the team as a whole, has contributed to Ffrench's leadership on and off the court which is, undoubtedly, a leading reason for the choice to make her captain.

Even with confidence in her own abilities and the abilities of her teammates Ffrench still finds that she needs to shoot the ball more in this upcoming season.

Practices over the last couple months have provided plenty of opportunity for Ffrench to work on her shooting, and although practices are going very well for the point guard and the whole team, she and her teammates are most definitely ready to get some play against people other than themselves.

Ffrench is more than excited to get the season under way.

Building on her career-best average points per game at 7.7 in the '05-'06 season Ffrench is hoping that this season is not only her personal best but also a best for the program.

The Hawks sit 4th in the A-10 Women's Basketball program, the Hawks to best even that prediction.

Although Ffrench has her pre-game necessities of pre-wrap in her hair, chap-stick at the ready and NEVER changing shoes during the season, these hardly seem necessary as she lead the team with a 77.3 shot percentage from the foul line in her 27 games last season.

Ffrench is set to be starting point guard following her 16 starts in the '05-'06 season.

Although the '05-'06 season was Ffrench's best on record, she has been a leader on the team even since her sophomore year as she lead the team with assists, averaging 2.0 per game.

From New Minas, Nova Scotia, Ffrench is the 8th foreign player to suit up in the Hawks uniform for the women.

Leading her high school to back-to-back New England Prep school championships in her junior and senior years, there were high expectations for the Tabor Academy graduate.

From the beginning Ffrench has delivered and this season, as her last should be no different.

Look for this point guard to make her presence known from the foul line and (she hopes) with her free throws.

Ffrench will undeniably aid in leading the Hawks in accomplishing their goal of having the best season than can for the program.
