Coach Lynn Milligan is now in her sixth season here at Saint Joseph's University as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.
Coach Milligan enjoys working with Head Coach Cindy Griffin because she really allows all the coaches to take part in every aspect of the game, whether it's strategizing, working one-on-one with a player, or looking for potential players.
Milligan enjoyed her six years here because of the people here at Saint Joseph's.
"You come to St. Joe's and just fall in love," said Milligan. "There is nothing here that would drive me away from this great program and its coaches."
Coach Milligan is in charge of recruiting because of her expertise. She has 15 years of experience behind her.
The recruiting process first begins with a contact through the mail, and then phone calls follow.
The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Assocation) is strict with its guidelines for recruiting.
The first contact may be made on Sept. 1 of the recruits' junior year, and the first time coaches are allowed to contact the recruits by phone is on April 1.
After April 1, the coaches are allowed one phone call per week to the recruit. Coach Milligan also reaches out to the recruits through text messages because under NCAA regulation they are considered written letters.
Along with text messages Coach Milligan contacts the recruits through IMs and emails. Recruiting is a year long process, but recruiting becomes heavy during the month of July with two ten day, and is allowed for 85 days during the rest of the year.
Coach Milligan looks for players who are talented, but always makes sure that these players will fit into the system used at Saint Joseph's.
More importantly though, she looks for players that are "character kids" who will represent everything that Saint Joseph's is all about.
Coach Milligan looks for the best players in the country who will fit into the program, and who have an ethic for hard work and determination. She looks for the players that will step up in difficult times.
