The expectations are high.
The potential is great.
Sophomore point guard Mary Kate McDade is ready.
She is ready to fulfill the expectations that she set as a player in high school.
Being named 2005 Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Basketball Player of the Year is no small honor.
Her play at Nazareth Academy was something astounding, and now McDade is ready to build upon that success.
McDade averaged 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals per game as a senior, but still unselfishly recognizes her teammates.
"The honor that I received was not accomplished by myself, but also from my teammates, without them I would not have received such an honor," she said.
McDade points to her fellow Hawks as her assistance in the transition from high school to Saint Joseph's.
"Last year was an amazing year. Coming in as a freshman was a tough
transition just because of the different pace of the game, the
intensity and the time commitment, but the upper-classmen were always
there for us making the transition as smooth as possible."
McDade is able to develop into her new role, as justified by her play in high school.
"Coach Griffin gives each player a specific role every year. Basically, when your name is called, be ready to go."
As a point-guard
she expects us to lead the team, and make sure everyone know knows where to
go and what to do." McDade is ready and capable to lead this team.
This year will be another building one for McDade, as she is preparing to be molded into the future of St. Joe's women's basketball.
The talent is apparent, and the success that awaits McDade is not a question of if, but when.
"This year I am hoping to contribute to the team by setting everyone up for a great shot, playing great defense and just hustling every second
of the game."
She is looking to build upon the success that she had last year.
