Issue date: 11/10/06 Section: Sports
An Interview by Geoff Roberts with Amy Gillespie, freshman guard and Ashley Logue, freshman forward.
Which of you two will get more playing time this year?
AG: I would say it depends on the team. If we need big people than Ashley, if we need playing with three guards of four quick shooting guards, then me.
AL: I agree.
GR: An insightful answer, but neither stepped out on a limb. 1/2 point for each.
If the men's JV team played the women's varsity team, who would win and by how much?
AG: They would win, probably by 10 points.
AL: They would win, but it would be close. Actually, no I lied. They would win by 15. But it would be a good game.
GR: Not the answers I expected to hear. Ashley's response is more amusing, 1 point for her, zero point for Amy.
Do you know who Pat Calathes is? If so, who is he?
AG: Yes, he's a player on the men's team.
AL: Yea, he's on the boy's team.
GR: I guess all the freshman girls know Pat Calathes. 1 point for both players.
What school did Ashley originally sign to play basketball with? Why did she come to Saint Joseph's instead?
AG: Drexel, but she came here because...
AL: Because SJU is better.
GR: I like the school spirit coming out of the freshman. However, this question is about Ashley so she only gets 1 point, 0 point for Amy.
Is Coach Griffin a soft touch, a drill sergeant, or just right?
AG: She's just right, she's tough but we need it.
AL: Just about right. She works us when we need to be worked. She works us to make us better.
GR: Talk about sucking up to the coach. No points for either player.
In a game of one on one, which of you would win?
AG: I don't know, it depends on who gets the ball first. I would shoot and scoreon her but she could post me up.
AL: I would! I'd just take her inside.
GR: I like the confidence from Ashley. 1 point for Ashley, no points for Amy.
Final score: Ashley Logue 4, Amy Gillespie 3. Logue wins!
