At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, the ARAMARK dining service office in Campion Student Center was robbed by an unidentified suspect carrying a handgun, said a Campus Advisory on MySJU issued by the Office of University Communications. No one was hurt.

According to the report, those who witnessed the incident, including the ARAMARK night manager and two students sitting in the Crimson Café, described the suspect as a 5'4", 23-25 year old black male with a mustache and goatee, a shoulder bag, and a dark hooded shirt.

According to the report, it is unknown whether or not the suspect entered the building before or after 11 p.m., when every entrance to the building is secured.

Students were surprised to hear of the robbery, but not that the suspect was able to get into the building. Even with the doors locked after 11 p.m., it is still easy for someone to get into the building without an ID card, they claimed.

"It's not like you're going to close the door on somebody right behind you," said MaryKate Hesson, '10. "It's just common courtesy to hold it open. It's what you do."

In response to the incident, effective immediately, anyone remaining in Campion after 11 p.m. will be asked for proper identification. In addition, campus security will from now on accompany dining service personnel at closing time.

Many students are relieved to hear of the new measures, but some are skeptical of their effectiveness.

"I don't think it's going to make a big difference," said Hesson. "If they [intruders] are clever they can avoid security."

Skeptical or not, students are rattled by the incident, with some reconsidering their nighttime excursions around campus.

"I think a part of me will be a little more paranoid," said Virginia Humud, '10. "I'll probably try to drag someone with me."
