Wow, I cannot believe that my time as Saint Joseph's 6th Student Body President is coming to a close. Campaigning for the 7th Senate started on Monday, November 6 at 7:30 PM. Overall there are 29 students running for various positions on the University Student Senate.
Although this number has been larger in the past, it is still extremely important to vote on November 28 - November 29 on my.sju.edu. Each year the Student Senate continues to grow in not only reputation, but clout and prestige throughout the entire campus community.
In the last year alone, the USS has represented students on any and all Search Committees that transpire throughout the University, along with roughly 12 major University wide committees that deal with planning, budgeting, policy/procedure, appeals, etc. The Student Body President also presents four times a year on student issues to the highest committee at the University, the Board of Trustees.
This information in itself suggests that the Student Senate has a lot of respect and influence over all aspects of the University. For this reason, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of voting in the upcoming elections. If you do not know who is running, come to the Campaign Speeches on November 16 at 7:00 in the Forum Theatre. There, you can listen to all the platforms that the prospective 7th University Student Senate members will be running on. If you have any questions about voting information, etc., please contact uss@sju.edu or 610-660-1076.
All students, please be advised that the Campion Student Center will be locking its doors every night at 11:00. Campion will still be 24 hour space, but students will be required to swipe in at the Gray Cafeteria side entrance, located between LaFarge and Simpson Halls.
Any student, who is found in Campion after 11:00
, will be required to show their SJU ID, so please make sure it is with you at all times. Even though this is a hassle, I ensure you it is for the safety of all SJU students. As our campus is located in Philadelphia, unfortunately, safety can sometimes become an issue. Student safety is absolutely the foremost priority at the University, so please be cooperative with any extra measures to prevent unfortunate situations in and around our campus.
As always, if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at james.finore@sju.edu or 610-660-1075. Have a great weekend!
With Pride in SJU,
Jim Finore
