Collecting uniforms at the end of a season is always a sad time. But rarely is it this difficult for the equipment managers.
Right now, Fieldhouse equipment managers have their work cut out for them.
As the Saint Joseph's University Field Hockey gears up for the Atlantic 10 Championship, these workers put away the gear of every other fall sports program on Hawk Hill.
And considering the difficult seasons each team experienced, jerseys and shorts will reek of the evidence that few games this year were walks in the park.
Hanging up their cleats surprisingly early this year, women's soccer suffered their first run without a postseason since 2003. Usually a perennial playoff team with coach Jess Reynolds at the helm, a lack of balanced scoring and inconsistent play limited the team to a 4-5 conference record, 7-11 overall.
Despite a record-breaking 14 goals and 33 points from senior Ali Wean, the Hawks could not muster enough support or protect their own goal sufficiently to have a winning conference record.
Men's soccer struggled mightily in its campaign with only a single win, a 1-0 home victory over Duquesne, in its 1-6-2 Atlantic 10 season.
The Hawks saw their only non-conference triumph with a 3-2 win over LaSalle and finished with an overall record of 2-12-4.
The team did show signs of fight with six overtimes and four ties on the season, including a scoreless love affair at year's end with Fordham, but the Hawks failed to find the back of the net as they were outscored by all opponents, 44-15. Sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Benedict made a career-high 11 saves against Fordham. Sophomore Mike McInaw led the team in goals for the second straight year with four
Women's tennis players stowed their rackets for the winter after finishing their fall schedule as Hawk Hill's most successful team. The 10-5 Hawks received a stellar effort from freshman Jennifer Kedzierski, who went undefeated at 14-0. The Hawks defended their cage with a 4-1 home record.
Golf clubs return to their bags after a second place finish in the Towson Invitational. Senior Chris Reedman earned A-10 Golfer of the Week and Cole Wilcox was named A-10 Rookie of the Week after the team's strong showing at Towson.
Tight tank-tops and high shorts return to the wash since the men's cross country team's recent sixth place at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships. The 8K race, held in Pittsburgh, featured 146 runners from the 14 conference schools.
Graduate student Mike DiDio and senior co-captain Teddy Meyers, earned All-Conference honors for their performances in the meet. DiDio placed 6th overall with Meyers trailing right behind him in 7th.
The women's team also packed their bags for home after a 7th place finish in the A10 Cross Country Championship.
In a field of 14 teams, the Hawks matched their previous season mark thanks to sophomore Andrea Florida, whose 13th place finish was tops for Saint Joseph's University.
