The women's tennis team traveled to St. Louis this weekend for the Atlantic 10 Championships. Seeded 11th in the tournament, the women went up against Massachusetts on Friday and La Salle on Saturday. The Hawks battled through both matches but ended up splitting the two.
On Friday the women squared up against the 6th seeded UMass Minutewomen hoping for an upset. They fought hard but fell short, losing by a score of 4-1. The women got off to a pretty good start with a number two doubles win. Maggie Mullaney, '11, and Sally Kalani Stainier, '12, won in the number two doubles spot by a score of 8-5. But UMass gained the doubles point by winning the number one and three doubles 8-6 and 8-3 respectively. Mullaney was the bright spot on the day.
Aside from pairing up with Stainer for the doubles win, she was the only Hawk to win a singles flight. She won the number two singles match 6-1, 1-6 as the UMass player had to retire. The Minutewomen then went on to win the number one, three and six singles matches for the victory.
On Saturday the women went up against the La Salle Explorers, a team they beat 7-0 earlier this year. The Hawks finished their season on a very high note, winning by a score of 4-0.
Playing in her final match of her collegiate career Jhennifer Kedzierski, '10, had a special day. Kedzierski, a native of St. Louis, won her singles match 6-2, 6-0 and was winning her doubles match with Laura Matz, '12, 7-1 before the match was halted. In Kedzierski's 6-2, 6-0 win in her singles match, she became the second winningest singles player in program history with 41 wins.
