Letter from the Editor in Chief and Managing Editor: The Hawk to move online amid coronavirus outbreak

Our nation, and the entire world, is facing unprecedented times in wake of the coronavirus. Now, more than ever, we recognize the importance of fact-based, informative journalism. At the front lines of this pandemic are health professionals, experts and scientists who are urging the public to listen to their recommendationsour duty is to collect, collate and share these messages and to tell the stories of the virus’s impact on our community.

As much of the journalism world has had to adjust to these unique circumstances, The Hawk is also making changes. For the first time since World War II, The Hawk will be suspending print coverage for the remainder of the semester. With classes moving to virtual instruction, we too will be shifting our coverage to be completely online. We want to be very clear in stating that we will continue to provide the important information and news that our community deserves.

As we’ve done since January, The Hawk will continue to highlight the effects of the coronaviruson our students both domestic and international, faculty and staff, and on the greater Philadelphia area. We continue to strive to be a source of accurate and resourceful information for the St. Joe’s community. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, there are a lot of unanswered questions, and our reporters will continue to work tirelessly to find answers to these questions, share critical information and tell the stories of our community members’ experiences.

We would like to hear from you, our readers, the community of St. Joe’s, with your experiences and your questions so that we can best serve you and combat misinformation. We will remain a trusted and reliable news source for our community. Please email (hawk.editorial@gmail.com) or DM (@sjuhawknews) us with your comments, questions and feedback.

Despite the circumstances, we are committed to continuing the mission of The Hawk by informing the St. Joe’s community, particularly during this difficult time.
