Students, faculty and staff gathered in front of the West building on May 1, also known as May Day or International Workers day, in a composed, yet strong rally and teach-in against the war and the affects that it is having on U.S. citizens. The rally and teach-in, initiated by the Hunter Chapter of the Professional Staff Congress, the union that represents CUNY's faculty and staff, was part of an historic event.

Controversy continues to mount over the ever-rising bar for gaining admission to CUNY senior colleges.
The beginning of this year marked the implementation of the toughest admissions requirements since the 1998 termination of CUNY's open admissions. CUNY's 2007 decision to raise the required cutoff for SAT and New York State Regents math scores went into effect this past admissions season, with a higher cutoff for SAT and New York State Regents verbal scores soon to follow.

On Wednesday, May 7, only six days after the U.S. House of Representatives gave final approval of the "Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008," President George W. Bush signed the bill into law.

A Drexel student was struck by a car May 5 shortly before 10 p.m. while riding a bicycle at 32nd and Chestnut streets, according to Domenic Ceccanecchio, senior associate vice president for public safety.
"It was reported that while he was riding a friend's bike in the street, west on Chestnut [Street], he was struck by a white four-door 2002 Hyundai Sonata driven with its headlights off," Ceccanecchio wrote in an e-mail.

A group of Barack Obama supporters have accused members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity of shouting racial and demeaning epithets at them on April 22 as they attempted to write appeals to vote for their candidate on sidewalks near the fraternity.
The fracas lasted several minutes, the students said in a prepared account, and the incident was reported three days later in the Public Safety crime log.
