Some athletes simply love the limelight. Many players have tried to develop their excellence on the field into greatness on the big screen. For some it has failed; for others it has succeeded. Some have made us laugh with their humor and others have made us laugh (and almost cry) at their woeful acting.

The men's crew team made university history this weekend, winning the point trophy in the 70th annual Dad Vail Regatta. The Hens are only the second club crew team to win the men's title at the collegiate regatta.
"This is considered one of the largest and top-most competitive regattas in the country for colleges," head coach Chuck Crawford said.

For one day, every year in April, NFL fans are glued to their televisions wondering what effect a newly selected player will add to a team. They wonder if this is the year their franchise will take that step from an NFL team to Super Bowl Champions.
In 2006, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl at the age of 23, after being selected in the first round of the draft only two years before.

The memory of Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse will forever extend beyond the red gym, 54th street, and the Philadelphia zip code. It will forever be the home of the Hawks, and no multi-million dollar blueprint will ever change that.
Dedicated in November of 1949 to alumni who gave their lives in World War II, the first basketball game played on its court was a 62-46 loss to Rhode Island.

The men's lacrosse team had been writing a book that you just couldn't put down.
It featured tales of resilience (a comeback double-overtime win against Hofstra) and an ability to bounce back from adversity (never losing two games in a row all season).
It featured heroes (Dan Layfield and L.

The stage was set for the men's lacrosse team to celebrate the first CAA championship in school history.
Drexel led Hofstra 9-7 with under a minute-and-a-half to go and the celebration to follow seemed all too fitting for a team that had accomplished so much this year.

It is not easy filling the shoes of a legend.
A 70 percent career faceoff percentage is a statistic not matched by many lacrosse players. Former Delaware men's lacrosse specialist Alex Smith's achievements were nothing short of extraordinary.
When Smith graduated from Delaware after last season, he left a gaping void at the faceoff position.

The Drew University baseball season came to an end after a three-game sweep against Catholic University. The Cardinals took the Saturday doubleheader 15-4 and 12-4. The Rangers came up short in a close game on Sunday, when they lost 12-8.
Starting pitcher Even Martens ('11) pitched a shaky game in the first game of the doubleheader allowing 11 hits and 10 runs and putting Catholic up by a significant amount by the fifth inning.

A .227 batting average, seven RBIs, and zero home runs are certainly numbers worth forgetting, but shortstop Daniel Bierce '09 made sure he would remember these numbers from his admittedly sub-par season. "My sophomore year was the worst baseball season of my life," Bierce said.

Late recruit to join Miller's squad
Better late than never. Larry Loughery probably agrees.
The Philadelphia Daily News reports that the 6-foot-6, 210-pound senior at the Academy of New Church - who previously played for St. Joseph's Prep - has gained admission to Penn and will play for men's basketball coach Glen Miller.

As the weather gets warmer, students who do not spend their time on the Quad sunbathing take the opportunity to test their mettle against the best the college has to offer in a variety of "sporting" events, including campus golf, quoits, volleyball and Kubb.

In the year 490 B.C., a professional runner named Phidippides was asked to deliver a message of Greek victory in the Persian War to Athens, despite his recent completion of a 280-mile run to Sparta. Exhausted, Phidippides took on the job, running the 26.2 miles in a little over three hours.
