Two weeks ago, my brother appeared to have worn himself ragged, mulling over the daunting decision of what to do with his life over the next four years. The worry ate at him as he wondered whether to choose a college that would cost him $190,000 by the time he graduated in 2012, or a college that would more or less pay him to attend, and give him a free MacBook to boot.

I have been teaching management courses at Baruch College for close to 15 years, continuously experimenting with different models designed to engage students and empower them to take responsibility for shaping their academic experience.
On Tuesday, April 15, my beloved wife Benita passed away.

As members of the Hunter Women's Rights Coalition, we would like to give my sincerest thanks to outgoing Vice President Ben Siegel for his dedication and service. Unfortunately for us, he is graduating and cannot remain an officer. His hard work and commitment to the club, its members and feminism are exemplary for women and men alike.

With the end of year quickly approaching, organizations throughout the college are hosting a plethora of award ceremonies honoring student leaders. I had the privilege of attending two such events.
The Ticker's elegant reception featured fawning introductions by the editors as they bestowed certificates upon their most prized writers and contributors.

I am quickly approaching that dreaded moment - I have only seconds to decide my next course of action.
As she nears me - I think I recognize her from one of my English classes sophomore year, don't I?
I am racked with indecision - do I smile, say hi or maybe decide it's the perfect time to pull out my cell phone and send a text? I become terribly interested with a bird hopping around on the Green, and the girl and I pass each other without a word.

This is the fifth and final commentary in a series.
This is my 26th year as an adjunct psychology professor at Baruch. Hired in 1983, I taught between six and 12 credits every fall, spring and summer since then.
I worked for chairman Dr. Walter Reichman for about 20 years - one of the finest and most decent people I have ever known.

LIFE OF ALVIN | I called one of my favorite writers a few weeks ago and told him I was writing a column on "advice for young writers." But, really, I just wanted to talk to him.

We all remember Kanye West's line during the Katrina fundraiser, the one that left Mike Myers speechless: "George doesn't care about black people." Maybe that's true, maybe it isn't, but what is evident now is that there is still a portion of America that cares immensely about black people.

A genius wasn't required to realize that the DVD release of "Juno" would stir up a few bits of watered-down controversy. Here and there, people can read the opinions of those who didn't get a chance to express them when the film first hit theaters. While every single person is entitled to his or her own opinion, writing in a public forum forces authors to be critical of the facts they are presenting.

Never has there been a time when humans are so connected. We watch the same television programs, see the same films, listen to the same radio shows, and are able to communicate instantly via computer, phone, or text message. We are never far from the media, nor is it far from us.

Racial Remarks
To the Editor:
The front-page article "Racial Remarks directed at Obama supporters" (May 2) fails to meet even the most basic standards of objective and balanced journalism. The author does not produce a single independent account to verify the headline's alarming claim that "racial remarks" were made during the chalk-washing incident, yet this allegation is reported as fact.

Earlier this semester, Lafayette announced a highly touted financial aid commitment, part of which eliminated loans for students whose families earn less than $50,000 a year. Although financial aid officials say they are unaware of the exact number of students who will be affected, based on Federal Pell Grant data, the total may not be that high.

"It is important to remember that SAFAC is a subsidizing funding source and exists to help student organizations meet some of their financial expectations. SAFAC should never be depended upon as financial means for any student organization to exist. We strongly encourage student organizations to look at other funding options such as fundraising, soliciting donations, and collecting dues if they are not satisfied with their SAFAC Allocation," Joseph Gonzalez, advisor for the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee, wrote in a letter to The Triangle.

Should you reward a disobedient child with candy? No - at least, you aren't a good parent if you do. So, should you reward a bum for his laziness with your spare change? No - at least, you aren't a good citizen if you do.
You may ask yourself, "What does this guy know about kids?" or, "Why does this guy not like homeless people?"
To begin with, I have always known there are a lot of homeless people in Philadelphia; you see them around 7- Eleven all the time.

The alleged racial epithets that several fraternity members made to African-American supporters of Presidential hopeful Barack Obama last week are deplorable and inexcusable, to say the least. The situation, however, has become even more appalling because of the college's sluggish response to the incident.
