A guard from Baton Rouge, La., Langston Galloway, '14, is coming off of a successful freshman year where he not only made his mark as a Hawk, but also reached national recognition. Galloway is excited to help the team in all ways and is ready to be a leader on and off the court for the 2011-2012 season.

As a freshman Galloway became the team's second leading scorer (12.8 ppg) and leading rebounder (5.5 rpg) He also led the Atlantic 10 in free throws (88.7 percent) along with leading the Hawks in three-point shooting with an average of 39.2 percent on the season. His offensive skills did not stop there. Galloway recorded double figures 20 times and played in eight games where he scored at least 20 points.

His recognition is not limited to Hawk Hill; Galloway was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week five times and the Big 5 Player of the Week twice. He reached a career high of 27 points in games against St. Bonaventure and Charlotte. He alsoH helped the Hawks reach the A-10 Tournament by shooting 6-for-7 in three-point-shots at Charlotte. Galloway led the team in rebounds and assists versus Dayton, rebounds against George Washington and Penn State, and points against Duquesne and Fairfield. For all of these reasons, Galloway was named to the 2010-11 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Rookie Team.

Galloway said all of these accomplishments from last season are "just something I can build off of, something I can build from to get better. It was just my freshman year. I know I have a lot to learn and a lot to still achieve."

Galloway is well-known on the court for his offensive abilities. This year he is focusing on his ball handling and being more consistent in his game overall. He has been dedicating a lot of time developing his position as both a point guard and shooting guard, and has worked to improve coming off ball screens. In spite of his personal goals, Galloway is ultimately focused on the team.

As he prepares begins his second season as a Hawk, Galloway says he is going to be "more aggressive and take advantage of opportunities when the time is there." From a leadership standpoint, his role on the team is to "be more vocal and help out each player with where they need to be and what we are doing on offense and defense."

According to Galloway, "The team is focusing on just being more efficient. Scoring when we need to, stopping when we need to, and just being successful." In order to help the team, he plans on bringing "a winning mentality and a winning spirit."

"We are looking good right now," says Galloway. "We are getting better every day and everyone is seeing that, players and coaches included. The freshmen on the team are also adjusting well. They know the plays and are working hard on improving their defense. We all have our ups and downs, but we work through it as a team."

As a whole, the team is excited for the increase in home games this year, and Galloway is no exception. "It is definitely a positive thing, but we need the fans to come out and support. They give us the energy we need to be successful," Galloway explains.

Personally, Galloway is looking forward to three games in particular: Xavier at Xavier, and Villanova and Temple at home.

"Last year, Xavier beat us on our home court and they are one of the best teams in the conference," said Galloway. "Temple also beat us pretty badly as well here and we need to make up for that."

The Hawks are predicted to finish seventh in the league overall. Galloway hopes to do better and prove that statistic wrong. Galloway asks all of his fellow Hawks to "just come out and support us. I promise you won't be disappointed. Come to the games and have fun. The team is focused on winning games this year."
