Off-duty cop shoots robbery suspect in Borgia parking lot

Sirens illuminated campus in the wee hours of the morning Friday, as the Borgia Hall parking lot became a crime scene. A man who held up the 7-11 on City Avenue was gunned down by an off-duty highway patrol officer at approximately 3 a.m. Witnesses say the off-duty officer was pulling into the store on the 5300 block of City Avenue as a clerk informed him that the store had just been robbed. Tuition increase announced

2010-2011 tuition and fees total $35,080

In a letter to students and families this past week, President Timothy Lannon, S.J., announced the expected cost of attendance increases for the 2010-2011 academic year at Saint Joseph's University. In 2010-2011, tuition and fees will amount to $35,080. Full story

A big fat Greek hope: Greek Life housing a no-go for fall

Last Fall, the Office of Residence Life proposed the initiative to turn a campus hall into an entirely Greek Life residence. Greek Council and Residence Life held meetings and discussed ideas that would turn Lapsley Lane into “college row,” with fraternity and sorority letters nailed above the doors of the campus houses. For one local theater, film education and education through film are part of the mission. The Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI), located on Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, shows old classics and current independent and foreign films. It also holds film discussions and film education classes. Let's Dance: Women’s basketball makes WNIT, plays VCU this Thursday

The Saint Joseph’s women’s basketball team earned a berth in the WNIT this week after going 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 Tournament last week. With a first round game on Thursday, the Hawks will play VCU in the first postseason tournament for either basketball team sine the 2007-2008 men’s team. Full story
