The attitude has changed a ton since I was there, we hated the swipe access thing, found it to be a royal pain. It made sense to have swipe into suites, and at either the doors or the desk, but to have both is redundant, and very few schools have such stringent policies. As long as you lock your room things are generally fine, with the rare exception of the Lancaster situation and things like it. That however was not caused by a break in, but by a problem with university security perpetrated by someone who did not have to break in. I find the 3 guests per resident policy to make sense for dorm rooms, but still to be somewhat stringent, but absolutely ridiculous for apartments. One should be able to bring who they want to their apartments.
